This is a College magazine, which is targeted at potential and current students at Beloit University. The main focus point of the front cover is a female student performing a science experiment in Medium Close-up, which seems appropriate as it is advertising a Science University.* * * * *
There is not much text on the front cover, and the attention is drawn straight to the picture and the Masthead, which is text in large, bold, white font. Perhaps one of the reasons that there is not much text is so that the reader can digest the information easily and be interested in reading onwards. If a College had a poor magazine, and if that was the only way of advertising, then nobody would go to the school as they wouldn't read the magazine. Which is why it is important to make the front cover look as appealing as possible.

This magazine is targeted purely for people who surf, or who enjoy surfing which can noticed immediately as the entire A4 front cover is one picture of someone surfing.

The layout of the text is really good, it does not overwhelm the reader and it is informative aswell as aesthetically pleasing. If the picture wasn't a big enough give away of the target audience for this magazine, the title of it might just do this. The Masthead with 'Surfing' in large black, bold capital letters along with the contrast of the white background, its made very clear what the Magazine is called and what it is about.

The use of language that is used on the front cover, would indicate that the magazine is targeted towards the younger generation, with words such as 'sick' drawing attention in and making the reader want to read on.
This magazine is clearly targeted at rugby fans, as the Masthead includes SA Rugby in large, bold text. There are two rugby players in Medium Close-up.
The language that is used on the front cover is clever, 'Boks Office' which sounds very similar to 'Box Office' and 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Bulls'. These are both clever ways of attracting the audience into reading into the magazine. The colour scheme is also well executed, with 3 main colours in use. Gold, Black and White, which are all very aesthetically pleasing colours when used in contrast with eachother.
