I now feel that next time I come to use such programs as Photoshop, I will improve the quality of my work greatly. I have learned new skills through out this task, and this will come in handy later on in the media course. If I could have done one thing differently it would be to take more care in the evaluation and analysis of this task, and I also feel that my time management could have been better. I did come across some problems whilst using some of the software, however, using trial and improvement, I rectofied these mistakes and have learned a new skill.

The Magazine front cover and contents page, have both met the criteria that was set, they each contain mastheads, and the front cover has this along with a dateline, a student in medium-close up, a slogan and a picture depicting the college.
I think I did pretty well on the task as a whole. As I have never used an Apple Mac before, and only used Photoshop a handful of times, I feel that I have done the best I could have in the time I was given.
The designing of the front cover of the magazine took about thirty minutes; it took me a few sheets of A4 until I had come up with the idea of what I was going to do for my front cover. A couple of my designs are below:
My magazine has stuck to the conventions of magazine font covers, as it has:
- A Masthead, with the title of the magazine (The Victorian)
- A Dateline, with the date of the magazine issue (2009-2010)
- A slogan at the bottom of the front cover
- A photograph relating to the college
My front cover also contains a student in medium close up, which was a specification that I needed to follow when doing the task.
I wasn't 100% sure who my target audience was going to be for the magazine, although I had a vague idea. So I asked a feir thoughts were, and generated a greater insight into different audiences. Initially I was going to create a magazine purely for Parents of the Students at the College, which would have included a formal font for all text I used, and I would have to be selective over what pictures I included in the Front Cover\Front page, to make certain I was sticking to the conventions for a college magazine. I only asked 10 people what they thought I should base my magazine on, and most of them camew people what the up with the idea of a college magazine for the students, rather than for the parents. This would mean I could follow different guidelines, which would appeal to the younger generations rather than the older. An example of this would be different style fonts, which I will go into detail later.

I feel that although my magazine cover is designed to appeal to the younger generation, it is still something that Parents would read. The front cover of my magazine includes a picture of the bottom gates at Victoria College, with the slogan at the bottom of the cover ‘On the Road to Success’. Parents may find this clever as in the picture there is a road or path, leading up to the college. Which would make the magazine appeal to more than one audience.

One of the ways in which, I tried to attract the younger generation is by using a certain style of font. Jersey Live is a music festival that is based in Jersey every year; it attracts thousands of people, with many of those people being, students and young people. The font that Jersey Live use in some of their publications (see below), and indeed on the tickets is very similar to what I have tried to do on my front cover. By going to ‘Layer’ on the top tool bar on Photoshop, then ‘Layer Style’, ‘Drop Shadow’. I could play around with it, to make it look similar to the popular font used in Jersey Live publishing. This is one technique I used to make students attracted to my front cover, hoping that they would identify the similarity to Jersey Live, which they all enjoy.
If you look at the Jersey Live font style, you will notice that I have tried to replicate that with my magazines title font.
